court support volunteers

Safe Haven Community provides early intervention pathways, allowing people to escape abusive relationships before they escalate to physical violence. We are looking for kind-hearted, compassionate and caring volunteers to support women who are attending the Domestic and Family Violence courthouse.

Women in Domestic and Family violence attend court for a number of legal proceedings that assist in helping them and their family stay safe. Located on level 1 of the Southport Magistrates Court, the ordeal of attending court can be very overwhelming and even fearful as they may be faced with seeing the perpetrator, therefore a safe room for women only has been provided. Dealing with unfamiliar paperwork and legal proceedings that are foreign to many of them, plus having to go over the events multiple times can be very stressful. We want to be able to support these women so they don't feel alone and where able to provide some form of comfort that will help them navigate through the experience as well as possible.

Volunteering at Safe Haven Community means you are putting your hands, feet and heart into helping some of the most vulnerable people in our community. No matter how big or small the support you provide, it makes a big difference. So, before you make a commitment to being a volunteer, ensure that you are available and realistic about how much time you can contribute.
