Connecting with Community

Writer: Paul CunninghamPaul Cunningham

Meetings in Toowoomba

Safe Haven Community had the opportunity to meet with 45 service providers helping people out of homelessness due to domestic violence in the Toowoomba area.  Service providers in this are very open to collaborating with us to help their community reduce homelessness due to DV and other abuse. We look forward to getting to know this regional community better and working to foster effective relationships.

We are also looking for Room Providers in the Toowoomba region, so if you have family and friends there, please get in touch with us so we can tell you more about how we can work together.

Raising awareness about SHC

Greater awareness is the key to letting women know there is a village of people in the community that can help them if they are in an abusive relationship.  Safe Haven Community has recently introduced bumper stickers that we would like to distribute into the south east of Queensland.  Please get in touch to get your stickers if you would like to champion our cause by placing these on your car.

New Fundraising Initiative

We have some great organisations that help Safe Haven every day.  We have a project that we are embarking on to encourage large organisations to work with us on a giving program.

It's our $1 a day program, where employers ask their employees to consider giving $7 a week out of their pre-tax paycheck, and donating this to Safe Haven to help women fleeing DV to stay out of homelessness.

If you work for a large organisation or know of people who do, can you please get in touch with us, as we would love to chat to them about their gift giving. $1 a day is not much to ask to help someone less fortunate than yourself. Please spread the word.

SHC in the News

You probably know by now that Safe Haven was lucky enough to be interviewed by Channel 7 Brisbane News a few weeks ago.  It was a wonderful presentation shining the light on what Safe Haven is doing in the community. Within 2 hours there were over 19,000 views of the video.  We can't thank Channel 7 News Brisbane enough for their help in spreading the word about our work. If you missed seeing this, please go to our website and watch the wonderful story.
